The Maclellan Foundation along with five other local ministries that minister to women are hosting a Single Moms Night of Encouragement at The Vine at First Centenary UMC on Friday, Oct. 2 from 6:30-8 p.m.
"Jennifer Maggio, author, speaker and CEO of The Life of a Single Mom will be our speaker. Her personal journey through homelessness, abuse, and multiple teen pregnancies is leaving audiences around the globe riveted.The Life of a Single Mom is a global, award-winning, organization committed to seeing no single mom walk alone," officials said.
Here are some statistics from the organization:
- 50% of babies are born outside of marriage;
- 78% of our current prison population was raised by a single mother; and
- 90% of all homeless and runaway children come from single parent homes.
Children of single parent homes are:
- 10 times more likely to abuse drugs;
- 5 times more likely to commit suicide; and
- 10 times more likely to drop out of school.

The five co-sponsors of the event will have booths set-up to help encourage single moms. These ministries include: Bethany Christian Services, Choices Pregnancy Resource Center, Hope Unlimited Ministries, Chattanooga Room in the Inn, Scenic City Women’s Network and The MoMentum Network.
