Unit Clerk Jean Stoker of St. Barnabas at Siskin Hospital in Chattanooga was honored as the Tennessee Health Care Association’s Chattanooga District Caregiver of the Year. She received the award Aug. 31 during THCA’s Convention & Trade Show in Nashville.
Ms. Stoker, who has worked at the facility for 38 years, is described as a natural born caregiver who has dedicated her entire career to long-term care at St. Barnabas.
“Jean is definitely compassionate, thoughtful, dependable and trustworthy,” said Administrator Cindy Wheeler. “She is always reminded of what her mother once told her: One person can make a difference, and you can be that one.”
THCA’s membership is divided into six districts – Memphis, Jackson, Nashville, Chattanooga, Knoxville and East Tennessee. THCA’s Chattanooga District is made up of 24 facilities in 12 counties. Ms. Stoker’s name, along with the other five district winners, will be placed in the running for the statewide honor of Caregiver of the Year. The honoree will be recognized at a special ceremony on Nursing Home Caregiver Appreciation Day on Nov. 20.
“Now in its 17th year, the Caregiver of the Year program provides THCA member facilities with the opportunity to reward those who have made it their missions to care for those who cannot care for themselves,” said Jesse Samples, THCA’s executive director. “This year’s theme is ‘Heart of gold,’ and our district winners certainly prove daily that they love their residents.
