Here are upcoming news and events from Outdoor Chattanooga:


*Tour by Bicycle: An Environmental History of Chattanooga September 15
Join Outdoor Chattanooga and the Chattanooga History Center for a leisurely-paced, guided bicycle tour along the Tennessee Riverwalk on Tues., September 15, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. We will ride fromOutdoor Chattanooga at Coolidge Park to Amnicola Marsh and back (6 miles round-trip).
Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Call the Chattanooga History Center to register at (423) 265-3247. Cost is $10 per person ($5 for CHC members). Registration deadline is Mon. Sept. 14. The tour is open to adults and kids 8 and up when accompanied by an adult. BYO-Bicycle or borrow a bicycle from the Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga urban fleet. Bike lights are recommended. *Learn to Ride a Bike program is so popular we've added another session!
Learn to Ride a Bike is offered the second Monday of each month. There are now two sessions to chose from; 4-5:30 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m. The next session is Monday Sept. 14. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bicycle and helmet. Outdoor Chattanooga has a few bikes and helmets to borrow and will provide instruction so you can learn to ride a bike! Email Outdoor Chattanooga or call (423) 643-6888 to get signed up.

*Interscholastic Archery League Information Meeting Sept. 3
Outdoor Chattanooga will host an informational meeting for the Interscholastic Archery League on Thurs., Sept. 3 at 5:30 p.m. at Outdoor Chattanooga, 200 River St. The League is available to middle school and high school students in the greater Chattanooga area. The league offers the platform for students to practice and compete in the world of organized archery. River City Archery is the league host and will be available to answer questions. For more information email Outdoor Chattanooga or call (423) 643-6888.

*International Observe the Moon Night Sep. 19
Join the Barnard Astronomical Society (BAS) and Outdoor Chattanooga at Coolidge Park on Sat., Sept. 19 from 7-10 p.m. for International Observe the Moon Night to gaze at the waxing crescent moon with eyes, binoculars, and telescopes.Viewing the moon through a telescope is an amazing experience. BAS may even zoom in on some other celestial wonders and will be available to help answer your questions and satisfy your curiosity! 100% Family-Friendly, 100% Amazing, and 100% FREE!! To get registered for this free event visit Barnard Astronomical Society Website. *International Observe the Moon Night (InOMN) is an annual worldwide public event that encourages observation, appreciation, and understanding of our Moon and its connection to NASA planetary science and exploration. Everyone on Earth is invited to join the celebration and unite on one day each year to look at and learn about the Moon together. - http://observethemoonnight.org/
*Community Campout October 8-9
Outdoor Chattanooga invites families and friends to a Community Campout at the Greenway Farms in Hixson on Thurs., Oct. 8-9. The campout coincides with Hamilton County Schools fall break and Outdoor Chattanooga's Fireside program.  This event is great for first time campers as well as seasoned campers that want to enjoy camping close to home. Tent set-up will begin at 3 p.m. on Thurs. Oct. 8 and tents must be packed up by 9 a.m. Friday morning, Oct. 9. Join other campers in roasting s'more by the fire, while listening to legendary local bluegrass musicians, The VonWamps as they play from the porch of the log cabin Thursday evening. And when the stars come out, Astronomers with Barnard Astrological Society will be on site with telescopes for campers to view the moon and stars! Wake up early for a warm pancake breakfast at 7:00 a.m. provided by Harvest Grocery and a group yoga class at 8:00 a.m. This is the only day of the year that camping is permitted at the Greenway, so don't miss your chance to take advantage of this opportunity! Registration is now open and will end October 5. Campout Cost is $10 per person, $30 for a family of 4 with an additional $5 per person after 4. Save the Date - Chattanooga "Best Town Ever" Celebration September 25
Rock/Creek will sponsor a free event to celebrate Chattanooga winning the title ofOutside Magazine's Best Town Ever Contest on Fri., Sept. 25 at Miller Plaza, 850 Market St. from 6 to 9 p.m. Local music, sponsored athletes, food and beer. Be sure to save that date and plan to attend the free celebration! 
*Georgia State Parks Offer Camping Gear Rentals in State Parks
For $50, first time campers can get a two night stay with a tent, lantern, chairs, sleeping pads and even roasting forks for marshmallows. This allows individuals and families the opportunity to try camping before investing in gear to make sure it's something they enjoy and will continue to do. Free Outdoor Movie Night in the Park September 4
Bring the family out for a free outdoor movie and family friendly activities at the Hubert Fry Center at the Tennessee River Park, 4301 Amnicola Hwy. on Fri., Sept. 4. There will be games, a costume contest, concessions and a movie that involves a famous pirate! Activities start at 7:30 p.m. and the movie starts at dark. Volunteer at the Audubon Acres, 900 North Sanctuary Rd., Chattanooga, TN every first Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to work on the trails.
