Brenda Faye Fox, 71, of Calhoun, Tennessee and formerly of Cleveland, Tennessee, died on Sunday, August 30, 2015.
Brenda started her working career at a local drive-in restaurant called “The Little Pig,” where she just happened to meet and fall in love with her soulmate, George Fox. She obtained her nursing degree and went to work at Bradley Memorial Hospital on the pediatric floor. After that, she continued her nursing career at the Bradley County Health Department where she served on staff for nearly 40 years and then retired to spend time with and care for her husband.She was a member at Unity Church of God since 1975 and was recently awarded a plaque for 40 years of service. She taught the youth class, women’s Sunday School class and Vacation Bible School. Brenda and George often hosted special events such as cookouts and hayrides for the church and enjoyed mentoring the youth. Many of the young people, whom are all grown up now, remember her by her gentleness and meekness.On any given day, you could find her studying her Bible, listening to Gospel music, reading, growing flowers and vegetables in her garden, or canning and making jellies and jams. If you came to visit, she would give you a tour of the garden and even share her heirloom plants and seeds with you; her family, in particular, loved taking home fresh vegetables from the garden. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren, preparing special meals for them like her famous “soupy potatoes”, playing dress up, hosting tea parties, and reading those books like “Love You Forever” by Robert Munsch. She had a gift of creating many memories and lifelong traditions that will live on through her family.She strived daily to be the best wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all, and most importantly, her sole desire was to serve Jesus Christ with her life. She was successful at all of the above, being compassionate and caring toward her family, and sharing Christ with everyone she encountered.
She was proceeded in death by her husband of 52 years, George Fox; her father, Austin Visage; her mother, Janie Visage; her brothers, Charles Visage and Billy Dean Visage; her brothers-in-law, J.P. Fox, Leon Fox and Bill Pendergrass; her sister-in-law, Margaret Fox; her niece, Theresa Pendergrass; and her nephew, Dale Moore.
She is survived by her three daughters, Angie Christenbury and life partner, Greg Pierce, Andrea Rahamut and husband, David Rahamut and Bridgett Alden and husband, Bob Alden; her eight grandchildren and spouses, Brooke and C.E. Davis, Heather Harmon, Jenifer and Brian Pauls, Emily and Justin Urban, Tanner Petitt, Kylee Petitt and life partner Grant Bottoms, Ava Rahamut and Caden Rahamut; and one great-grandchild, Jazzmyne Hensley.
A Remembrance of Life service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 2:30 p.m. at Grissom Serenity Funeral Home with Pastor Grady Simpson and David Rose officiating. The interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Tanner Petitt, Tony Watson, Tim Watson, Steve Watson, Kenny Saxe and David Rose serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 2 from 5-8 p.m. at Grissom Serenity Funeral Home, who has charge of the arrangements.
