The Chattanooga Housing Authority will hold a special fair On Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m. to connect landlords of affordable, available units with Housing Choice Voucher Program participants.
The Housing Choice Voucher program is a federal government program for assisting low-income families, the elderly and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. Since housing assistance is provided on behalf of the family or individual, participants are able to find their own housing, including single-family homes, townhouses and apartments.
Nearly 6,000 people applied for housing vouchers in January, but only 1,000 applicants were chosen through a lottery system. CHA staff spent Thursday and Friday issuing over 400 housing vouchers to those participants who had completed the process.
“We’re really seeking landlords with affordable housing that are looking to partner with CHA and the Housing Choice Voucher program. There is an especially big need for properties with one-bedroom units available,” said Theresa Biggs, CHA voucher housing coordinator.
The fair is open to all landlords interested in partnering with the Chattanooga Housing Authority and HCVP participants. The CHA is asking interested landlords to please RSVP to Theresa Biggs by emailing, tbiggs@chahousing.org or by calling, 423 752-4893. Landlords should bring any marketing materials they have about their property as well as housing applications for interested renters.
