Paul Renee Hayes
A bicycle store owner helped police nab a burglary suspect.
Paul Rene Hayes, who has an extensive criminal record dating to 1993, was charged with aggravated burglary.
Police investigated a burglary on July 21 at a house on Kelly's Ferry Road. The owner left his house at 8:45 a.m. and returned at 7 p.m.
He found that his front door had been kicked in. He was missing his 40" TV, Verizon tablet and a Cannondale road bicycle.
A neighbor first noticed that the door was open at 12:30 p.m. The neighbor said he saw a maroon pickup truck in front of the house at around 10:30 a.m. This vehicle sped off when the neighbor saw it.
Two days later, two black males entered the bicycle store with a gray Cannondale road bike they were attempting to sell. The owner recognized the bike from a "Wheelbur" sticker on the front. He was familiar with the owner of the bike so he purchased it for $250.
He asked the suspects ID before writing the check. He was told Paul Hayes and Chad Johnson.
Hayes then cashed the check at ACE Cash Express on Brainerd Road. He used his Tennessee ID and fingerprint.
Hayes has had a number of cocaine arrests, among other charges.
He was ordered to serve three years in prison for robbery in 1994.
