A 38-year-old Ooltewah man, who allegedly used stolen prescription pads to try to obtain drugs such as Percocet, has been charged with prescription drug fraud.

Jackie Eugene Roberts, 38, of 8016 Old Lee Highway, hung around the Walgreens at 2289 Gunbarrel Road for hours, trying to get other customers to fill a prescription for him, police said.

“Police had been to this location numerous times throughout the day on reports of a white male in a tank top and plaid shorts attempting to get other customers to pick up a prescription for him,” according to an arrest report filed by Chattanooga Police Officer Daniel Beach.
“Police were told he was doing this because he did not have an ID.”

Pharmacists at the location advised that the man presented them with a fraudulent prescription that was stolen, the arrest report noted.

“Dr. Philip A Bannor . . .  reported earlier that a vast amount of his prescription pads had been stolen,” according to Officer Beach’s report.

Following the robbery, Dr. Bannor’s office replaced their prescription forms with a new version, the arrest report said, and police were provided with copies of the new version so they could be compared with the older forms.

The prescription in Roberts’ possession was on one of the older forms, and had been post dated to 6-30-2015, Officer Beach wrote. Further, the signature on the form did not match Dr. Bannor’s signature, and the prescription was made out to a Jared Rogers.

“Upon making contact with the defendant, who would later be identified as Mr. Jackie Roberts, he advised police he did not have an ID,” the arrest report said.

“Upon placing the defendant into custody police obtained the defendant’s wallet, which he advised police we could look through,” it continued. “Police found an ID for the defendant, and also found an additional prescription for 120 Percocet that had not been completed regarding who the prescription was issued to.”

A large amount of information regarding clinics all over the local area, which police said indicated that the defendant had been doctor shopping for additional scripts, also was found in Roberts’ possession.

The defendant was taken to jail, and all evidence turned in at the Chattanooga Police Department property room.

Roberts is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on Aug. 11.
