Rev. Sterling Jetton announced that he will seek the Republican nomination for the office of Hamilton County assessor of property.  The Republican Primary will be held on March 1.

After serving in the United States Army and the National Guard, Mr. Jetton has worked as an employee of the Assessor of Property’s office for 27 years.  Mr. Jetton has also served in bi-vocational church ministry for 20 years and is the current senior pastor at Shelter Church.

Mr. Jetton said he is excited about this opportunity to serve, saying, “I am ready to put my experience and leadership skills to work for the people of Hamilton County.”

During his time at the Assessor’s office, Mr. Jetton was a lead real property appraiser under Roy Rumfelt during six reappraisals.  He obtained his professional accreditation through the International Association of Assessing Officers.  Under Assessor Bill Bennett, he was promoted to the role of senior property appraiser and was chosen to work on many special assignments, including representing the Assessor’s office during FEMA training.

Mr. Jetton emphasized his training and background, stating “The Assessor’s Office is a state of Tennessee constitutional office. The assessor of property is given the duties of identifying and classifying all property in Hamilton County. This role has many mandates from the state that require compliance, and experienced leadership is vital to the ongoing success of the office.”

Mr. Jetton is married to Kay Hannah Jetton, and they have two sons, Andrew and Stephen.  He served as a Big Brother for a number of years, and coached baseball at East Brainerd Youth Athletic Association. He has also served as a support volunteer with the Israeli Army Program, chaplain of the Ooltewah High and East Hamilton High football teams, and recently coordinated mission work in Haiti.

The public is invited to help kick off the campaign with a celebration breakfast on Saturday, Aug. 29, 8:30 a.m., at Wally’s Restaurant, 6521 Ringgold Road.
