Local author Karen Sherrill believes others can help children know God through his Word and that by knowing him, they can begin to trust him in challenging circumstances. This is the goal behind her story about a little girl with a great, big faith in God in her new children’s book, “Gena Trusts God” (published by WestBow Press).
Written in a simple poem form, children meet a little girl named Gena and learn how she trusts God when she encounters kids that don't seem nice.
"Children meet a little girl who trusts what God tells us about Himself in the face of a common challenge,” Ms. Sherrill says. The goal is to inspire children to do the same.
It’s a big concept,” Ms. Sherrill says, who admits that it’s one with which even adults struggle. “Children learn about God directly from scripture. They learn that He watches over us, that He’s good, He is everywhere we are, He hears our prayers, He can do anything, He knows everything, and that He tells us to pray for people who are unkind.”
Ms. Sherrill includes verses from the Bible at the end of the book to show readers how they can know the attributes depicted in the story.
“We can know God through His Word and when we do, it radically changes how we respond to everyday circumstances,” Ms. Sherrill says.
