Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) will hold the first annual Jackson Swamp Wildlife Management Area (WMA) dove hunt drawing on Aug. 29, at the Independence Community Center. Sign-in begins at 5 p.m. and the drawing will be held at 6 p.m.
Dove hunts started at Jackson Swamp WMA in the late 1990s and have become increasingly popular. This is the first year the hunt will be held by drawing only. Wally Akin, TWRA Wildlife Biologist said, “With increasing numbers of hunters, we want to ensure safety and quality for this dove hunt”. Jackson Swamp WMA dove fields include 15 acres of sunflowers, 30 acres of beans and millet. “We’re certain this will be another great year,” said Mr. Akins. “We look forward to seeing hunters at the drawing”.
The 2015 dove season opens at noon on Sept. 1. Hunters must have a valid hunting license and follow all regulations. For more information about dove hunting in Tennessee visit tnwildlife.org.
