Louise Meyer Nelson, 74, of Chattanooga, died peacefully on Friday, July 31, 2015. 

Mrs. Nelson was born and raised in Chattanooga. She was a member of First Lutheran Church where she belonged to LWML and served as their past president of the Chattanooga zone. She graduated from Chattanooga Central High School and Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Il. She retired from Chattanooga State and taught GED at the Hamilton County Jail. She and her family served as missionaries with Lutheran Bible Translators serving in Sierra Leone West Africa from 1985 – 1988.

Surviving are her husband of 46 years, William H. Nelson, Jr.; children, Christy Nelson (Karl) Edgeman, William (Becky) Nelson III, and John A. (Kathryn) Nelson; grandchildren, Claudia, Roselynn and William IV; brother, Carl Detlef Meyer; sister, Augusta Rose Gehring; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Carl Nelson; parents, Carl and Augusta Meyer; sister, Mary Smith; and brother, Clifford Meyer.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at First Lutheran Church, 2800 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37404, with Reverend Mark McCrory officiating. Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
