Norma Webb Cooper died peacefully on July 4, 2015 after a long, well lived life.

Norma was born to Henry and Lula Webb on Feb. 22, 1920. She was one of five children reared by her parents in the East Brainerd area. Her earliest memories were of time spent at Concord Baptist Church, where she began her life on their Cradle Roll and remained a member for all of her 95 years. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Boyd and Melvin, and survived by her dear sisters, Elaine Webb Huff , and Lois Webb (Harold) Douglas.

A graduate of Tyner High School, Norma attended McKenzie Business School. She married Clyde O. Cooper on July 24,1940. For a brief time during World War II, Norma lived and worked in New York City for a company that manufactured the cables that suspend the Brooklyn Bridge. Her family has always been amazed that she bravely went to New York during the war, so that she could be close to her husband whenever his ship docked in New York harbor. Norma was employed for a while at the Volunteer Ammunition Plant, but spent the majority of her professional life working at TVA. After being with TVA for 29 years, she retired in 1980 to enjoy being Mimi to her beloved grandchildren and to travel with Clyde. Clyde preceded her death in 1998.

After the war, their family expanded with the addition of her surviving children, Clyde Michael (Denise) Cooper and Sharon Cooper Fussell. Her later years included joyful times with her grandchildren: Cooper Freeman (AnnaBrooke) Johnson, Patton Johnson Fussell, Beth Cooper (Jeff) Potter, Mary Catherine Cooper, step granddaughters Holly Fussell (Mike Seal) and Susanna Fussell (Andy) Dodson, and six great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, at Chattanooga National Cemetery. There will not be any visitation at the funeral home.

The family warmly thanks the many people that helped in Norma’s care in her later life. Any donations in her memory are requested to be made to Hospice of Chattanooga.
