Lest We Forget

  • Thursday, July 30, 2015

Just after 9/11 I saw a cartoon of two aged veterans walking down a street lined with American flags in the window of every home and cars on the streets with flags in the windows.  One of them turned to the other and said, “You know,  this is the most colorful fall I can ever remember.”

It took a while but the patriotism waned.  Let’s not let that happen again.

The last of the five warriors has been laid to rest.  The flags have been raised to the top once again and the crowds have dried their tears and returned to their homes, but five of these homes have an empty space and the heart of our community has a scar that will long be healing.  Don’t let the hurt we felt or the danger we faced be forgotten again.
