William “Bill” Chepul, 45, of Chattanooga, died on July 1, 2015, peacefully at home, surrounded by family and friends, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Bill was born in Chattanooga, but moved to Whiteville, N.C., as a young boy. He graduated in 1992 from the University of North Carolina with a degree in Industrial Relations. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Following graduation, he came back to Chattanooga to work for BCBST where he met his wife and started a family. Bill had a smile that would light up a room and he always saw the best in everyone. He was passionate about his family, friends, his faith and everything Carolina Tarheels and you often found him eating candy. He lived every day with a positive attitude and inspired so many people during his three-year battle with cancer. His life here on earth was way too short, but he lives eternally in heaven.

Bill was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic Minister.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Chepul; grandparents, Thomas and Mary Catherine Johnson and Adolf and Ann Chepul; aunts and uncles, James Johnson, Thomas Johnson, Ann Muckle, Cedric and Jane Armor, Bryson and Frances Roberts; cousins, Betty Muckle and Michael Johnson.

Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Donna Wright Chepul of Hixson; sons, Evan and Carson Chepul of Hixson; mother, Margaret Johnson Martin, of Hixson; brothers, Pete (Natalie) Chepul, John (Tiffany) Chepul, all of Charlotte, N.C. and Michael (Liz) Chepul of Austin, TX; nieces and nephews, Connor, Eliza, Luke, Ella and Gavin; aunts and uncles, Alice and Frances Crowe, Mike and Barbara Wezner, Betty Johnson, Lorraine Johnson and Bud Muckle; and many cousins.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, at the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul.

The family will gather with friends on Monday, July 6, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church with a prayer vigil at 8 p.m.

Burial will be held July 18, in Whiteville, N.C.

A special thank you to Dr. Larry Schlabach and the staff of the University Oncology Associates for the care and compassion they showed Bill through the years, as well as, Hearth Hospice who helped make his final days peaceful. Also, for the many friends and family, near and far, whose support kept us going.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude Catholic Church or the Tuition Assistance Support Program for Catholic Schools.
