Riverwalk To Go Closer To The River Behind Alstom As Railroad Puts Old Line Back Into Use

  • Wednesday, July 29, 2015

The new section of the Riverwalk behind the Alstom (formerly Combustion Engineering) plant will go closer to the river than first anticipated, County Public Works Administrator Todd Leamon said.

He said the original plan had it going across the old Belt Line railroad four different times closer to the Alstom plant.

However, he said railroad officials have decided to put the line through the old Tannery Flats section back into use to serve PSC Metals.

He said an old Belt Line yard by the river behind Alstom and across from Moccasin Bend has been refurbished as part of the move. There were five tracks in the old yard. Those were taken up and two new lines put in their place.

Mr. Leamon said work has been delayed in that section while the final route was determined. He said it should get underway next week.

Sections have already gone under construction near the Cameron Harbor development and south of Alstom, he said.

The new section of the Riverwalk will eventually go from Ross's Landing Park to St. Elmo.
