Charles Foundation Scholarships Awarded

John R. Buhrman, treasurer, and member of the Board of Directors of the Mario C. and Grace B. Charles Education Foundation, announces the awarding of scholarships to students attending UTC during the 2015-2016 academic year.  

The scholarships, awarded annually in two different categories, engineering students, and students studying to be teachers, are in honor and memory of Mario C. Charles, who was an engineer with TVA, and his wife, Grace B. Charles, who was a teacher in the Chattanooga public school system. 

Awards made to engineering students are: Hannah Squires, a rising senior from Ooltewah, $6,000; Nathan Hodges, a rising senior from Hixson, $5,000; and Amanda Wade, a rising junior from Chattanooga, $4,000. 

Winners in the education category are: Bailey Hall, a rising junior from Harrison $6,000; Kevin Blake Justice, a rising senior from Cleveland, $5,000; and Elaine Gunn, a rising senior from Chattanooga, $4,000. 

ther members of the Board of Directors of the Charles Foundation include Dr. John Trimpey, a retired professor and Dean from UTC; Robert Moss, an engineering graduate of UTC; and Richard W. Buhrman, an Honors graduate of the University of Chattanooga.
