Norton, Mary Florence Moore (Cleveland)

  • Tuesday, June 30, 2015

Mary Florence Moore Norton, 90, of Cleveland, Tennessee, died on Sunday, June 28 at a local health care facility, surrounded by her adoring family and friends.

Mrs. Norton was the fourth child of the late Mary Florence Swain Davis and Nathaniel Moore; and was also preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, William Doug Carroll Norton Jr.; and her lifelong friend, Martha “Cotton” Campbell.

She grew up in the lovely coastal town of Southport, NC. Mary worked for Parks Belk in the late 60’s but her true calling in life was raising her four sons. Her strong devotion to family and love of life was contagious to all who came to know her. She was a gracious southern lady and a true Carolina girl with a keen sense of humor and a quick wit!

Mary is survived by her children, Richard Edwin Norton and his wife Linda of Cleveland, William “Bill” Carroll Norton III and his wife Judy of Reliance, TN, Michael Moore Norton of Charleston, SC and Kimberly “Kim” Merritt Norton and his wife Tammy of Fuquay-Varina, NC; grandchildren, Brian Norton, Tracy Norton Daverson, Justin Norton, Mary Norton Cole, Jill Norton Woodruff, David Norton and Kristen Norton Pope; great-grandchildren, Bailey McConnell, William Woodruff, Mary Grant Woodruff, Jenny Daverson, Madeline Daverson and Anderson Pope; and great-great-grandson, Kaden McConnell.

The Remembrance of Life Memorial Service will be conducted Wednesday, July 1, at 12:30 p.m. from the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church with Father Joel Huffstetller officiating. A Reception will immediately follow the service in the Parish Hall at St. Luke’s.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Morningside of Cleveland. Deepest gratitude’s go to Kay Rahe.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Caris Healthcare, 5959 Shallowford Road Suite 551, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37421.

The North Ocoee Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes has charge of the arrangements.
