Historic Pharmacy At 5 Points In Cleveland Gets New Life As Condo Units, Retail

  • Wednesday, June 3, 2015

The old Five Points Pharmacy in Cleveland is getting new life.

The brick, two-story building has been remodeled with eight one-bedroom condos and a section for retail.

Officials said two of the condos at The Loft at Five Points have already been leased

Tim Arthur, contractor, can be reached at 779-8243.

Some 100 people attended a grand opening for the development.

The units are studio style with custom cabinets and granite counter tops.

They include tile shower, appliances and washer and dryer.

In 1946, Ed Callaway and Joe Moore opened Moore's Drug Store in a building at Five Points. Two years later, along with partner Harry Ellis, they purchased a second and called it Ellis Drug Store.

After graduating from pharmacy school in 1950, Ben Moore joined the staff and became a partner with his father and uncle in 1953. A year later Ellis Drug Store became Moore's Pharmacy.

In 1958 the Moore family opened Cleveland Apothecary on Broad Street and immediately saw the need for additional space and a better location. As a result, the family opened Medical Center Pharmacy on Ocoee Street in 1962 and Super Discount Pharmacy on Spring Place Road in 1978.
