Public To Help Paint The M.L. King Mural Friday

  • Monday, June 29, 2015

Public Art Chattanooga is inviting the community to be a part of the largest public art mural in Chattanooga, that’s being created in the heart of downtown. On the AT&T Building in the Innovation District, muralist Meg Saligman and a team of local apprentices are painting a 40,000 square-foot mural.

Ms. Saligman has painted dozens of public murals around the world, and the M.L. King Mural will be her largest one yet. The public is invited to help paint the mural, which will depict the stories and history of the M.L. King District, on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center Lawn.

There will also be two  more painting sessions on Wednesday, July 15, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Miller Plaza Waterhouse Pavilion and Thursday, July 16, from 4-7:30 p.m. at the Chattanooga Public Library 4th Floor.

This project is organized by Public Art Chattanooga and the city of Chattanooga and is made possible through a partnership with AT&T, Sherwin Williams, and funding from the Benwood and Lyndhurst Foundations.
