The Chattanooga Area Food Bank wants everyone in the Greater Chattanooga area to mark their calendar for the 23rd annual National Association of Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive this Saturday.

This food drive gives community members the opportunity to make a difference without ever leaving their home. This Saturday, residents are encouraged to leave a bag of non-perishable food next to their mailbox prior to their regular mail delivery.

Officials said, "Food such as canned vegetables, tuna, peanut butter, dry beans, or oats are always needed at the CAFB but please remember not to include items in glass containers. City letter carriers will collect food donations from area residences as they deliver the mail and will take the donations to the CAFB. The CAFB is accepting Stamp Out Hunger monetary donations along with donated canned food items."

Food and funds raised through this drive will help to feed the 1 in 6 adults and 1 in 4 children in the Chattanooga area who are unsure where their next meal will come from.

“Stamp Out Hunger helps to fill our warehouse each Spring when food bank supplies tend to be low,” says Maeghan Jones, president of the CAFB. “We couldn’t do this without the help and commitment of our local letter carriers or the support of our generous community.”

Stamp Out Hunger is one of the CAFB’s largest annual food drives. Last May, the letter carriers in CAFB’s service region collected more than 87,000 pounds of food for the CAFB and its 20 county service area. This year, the CAFB’s goal is 100,000 pounds.
