Richard “Dick” McKinley Massengill, Jr., 85, of Benton, Tennessee, passed away Monday, May 4, 2015 in a Chattanooga hospital.
He was a 70+ year faithful and active member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Ocoee, TN. He was prominent citizen of the community and retired local business owner. He was a charter member of the Benton Lions Club; 64 year member, Past Master and secretary for many years of Conasauga Lodge 396; and Scottish Rite KCCH, 32nd degree.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard McKinley, Sr. and Neta Brogan Massengill.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Velma Moorhouse Massengill; sons, Barry and wife Pam Massengill of Cleveland, TN and Brian and wife Tammy of Benton, TN; grandchildren, Lynn Massengill and wife Autumn, Laura Moore and husband Chad, Mac Massengill, Billy Massengill, Hunter Massengill and Emily Massengill; great-grandchildren, Lynleigh Massengill, McKinley Massengill, Emma Moore and Halle Grace Massengill; several nieces and nephews; and many other extended family members and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Reverend Charlie Campbell officiating.
Interment will be Thursday, May 7, at 11 a.m. in Benton Memorial Gardens. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, at Shiloh Baptist Church prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations and memorials be made to Shiloh Baptist Church Building Fund, 358 Highway 64, Ocoee, TN 37361.
