2nd Annual Run To Feed 5k Set For May 16

  • Wednesday, May 6, 2015

Run to Feed 5k presented by EPB Fiber Optics will be conducting its 2nd Annual 5k/1 mile Fun Run fundraiser Saturday, May 16.  This event will raise awareness and funds for Snack Pack, a non-profit organization that focuses on giving meals in between school days and weekends for the elementary school children of East Ridge.

Sheri Mitchell, director of Snack Pack said, "We are excited about the upcoming fundraiser, Run to Feed 5K that will benefit the Crosspath Snack Pack Program.  It is fantastic to think about the magnitude of what the future of Snack Pack can be with more community awareness, support and involvement.  I doubt that I have ever really been hungry in my life, so I am moved with compassion to think we have children very nearby who may be without adequate food supplies and truly hungry. For our Snack Pack program the goal is to show the love of Christ by simply feeding as many of the children in East Ridge who are eligible for the program as is possible."

As part of the 5K, runners and walkers of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate in this family fun event by registering for the run/walk.  Participants can register online at www.runtofeed5k.com for $35 per person.  To register a group there is a $50 entry fee and then $25 per person.  Children 2-12 years of age can participate in the 5K for a discounted rate of $15.  On-site registration will be available.

All participants will receive a race T-shirt, food provided by sponsor BiLo, along with a few other goodies in their Snack Pack Bag.  This year’s event will be timed (thank you to the Chattanooga Track Club) and prizes will be awarded.

The race will start and finish at Camp Jordan in East Ridge.  Packet Pick up for all applicants will take place Friday, May 15, at Crosspath Church in East Ridge.  Preregistration on Saturday, May 16, will begin at 6:30 a.m.  The Run to Feed 5k will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the 1 mile Fun Run will begin at 8:40 a.m.

There will be face painting for the kids and US 101 will be on location.

Supporters who wish to fundraise on behalf of the cause can bring canned food items to the Run to Feed 5K.  Snack Pack is currently excepting Vienna Sausages, fruit cups, applesauce, puddings, non-refrigerated chocolate milk, peanut butter snack crackers, Mac and cheese and chili.

The Run to Feed 5k/Fun Run is sponsored in part by EPB Fiber Optics, CHI Memorial Hospital, Bilo, Modern Woodmen of America, US101, KissFM, The Legend 96.1, Rock105, 98.1 The Lake, Armstrong Relocation, 4am Marketing and Crosspath of East Ridge.
