Dewayne Powell’s Dirt Late Model racecar
Dewayne Powell’s Dirt Late Model racecar was in Fort Oglethorpe on Cinco de Mayo due to the former Cleveland Speedway Track Champions sponsorship with the Amigo’s Mexican Restaurant.
The local #P17 machine was parked out front as an eye catching advertisement of the restaurant, a ploy that is being used more and more by local businesses, products and services to gain attention to potential clients, consumers and customers, said officials.
“The racecars are a thing of beauty and the owners and teams take great pride in keeping up their appearances,” said area graphics designer Mark Angus Chaplin of Wraps by Outlaw in Dalton.
Most teams rely on family as well as business connections to sponsor their racing endeavors. NASCAR teams can command six and seven figures for sponsorship for a season on Cup and Grand National style racecars that are seen weekly on TV. Dirt teams have even used the barter method of trading out “this for that” as far as sponsorships goes a lot of times.
Powell’s TNT racecar is ready for action and is likely to be in competition this weekend in Cleveland for the Points Opener: “Steelhead Thunder” race Friday night.
