Martha Ada Pendergrass, 80, of Jasper, Tennessee, died on Tuesday, May 26, 2015.
She was born in Jasper on April 8, 1936 to the late Minnie Lee Hale and Frank Hale; and was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Pendergrass, Sr.; sister, Ella Frances Kelly; brothers, Willie Frank Hale and Garfield Hale; and son-in-law, Bradley Collier.
She was of the Baptist Faith and joined New Hope Baptist Church in her early years. She worked for a number of years at Tri-State Hospital and Trenton Spinning Mill. She was a mother and friend to many and never met a stranger.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Thereisa Collier, Mrs. Ramona (Sam) Pickett, Mrs. Ella (Mark) Gant, and Ms. Phyllis Pendergrass; one son, Charles E. (Jalanie) Pendergrass, Jr.; four sisters, Mrs. Lelamae Earvin, Mrs. Minnie Sue Roberts, Mrs. Brenda Jean Williams and Ms. Jacqueline Harkrick; two brothers, Mr. Harvey Hale and Mr. Donnie (Marsha) Hale; brother-in-law, Willard (Fannie) Pendergrass; special niece, Ms. Janice Hale; aunt, Ella Bell Yancey; 13 grandchildren; special grandson, Kane Hale; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives; and a host of friends, including special friend, Joann Fletcher.
The family will receive friends from 2:30-3:30 p.m. CDT on Sunday, May 31, at Serenity Funeral Home, who has charge of the arrangements.
Funeral services will follow at 3:30 p.m. CDT, with Elder Nicole Walker officiating. Interment will be held the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 9 a.m. CDT, Monday, June 1.
