A youth who police said was involved in a gang shooting while out on bond on a first-degree murder charge has been sentenced to serve 33 months in federal prison.

Demetrius Demond Bibbs, identified as a member of the Black P Stone Bloods, appeared before Judge Curtis Collier.

Bibbs earlier pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a weapon.

Chattanooga Police last Oct. 28 encountered Bibbs as they searched for a person matching his description who had fled from a recent traffic stop. Police said they forced Bibbs to the ground and patted him down after he reached into his front right pocket.

Officers found a loaded 9mm handgun in his pocket.

Bibbs, who is now 22, had been convicted of felony robbery and felony reckless endangerment.

The murder charge was eventually dismissed, and he got two years on the later shooting.

In the second incident, police said Bibbs fired at Guy Wilkerson, who was in the side parking lot of the Boys and Girls Club on 4th Avenue. The victim, who fired back, was hit in the buttocks. He was driven to Parkridge Hospital in a personal vehicle.

Ronald Blackmon Jr., 25, was the victim in the murder case. Bibbs and  Edward Ryals Jr., were charged in connection with the shooting on Sheridan Avenue near Wilson. The victim was shot in the head.

Ryals pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and got an 18-year sentence.

Bibbs was charged in October 2010 with especially aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit especially aggravated robbery. The former charge was dismissed and he pleaded guilty to the conspiracy count. He got a three-year suspended sentence.

Bibbs will be on three years of supervised release after he finishes his federal time.
