MURFREESBORO - Long known for its strong prep tennis tradition, the current group of Chattanooga players is in line to bring home some TSSAA state championship medals in the finals Friday morning.
The Scenic City has three playing for singles titles and four team in doubles.
D-II AA: In singles, its Cody Gubin (McCallie) and Drew Hawkins (Baylor girls) in their respective finals, while Baylor boys has Jack Gray and Chad Woodham in doubles.
In an all-Chattanooga girls doubles final singles final, Lilly Mooney-Lauren Carelli (Baylor) meet Maddox Bandy-Jenna Thorstensen (GPS).
D-I A-AA Boys: Hixson junior Alex Condra is No.1 in his class with a 4.0 average and hopes to be No.1 in tennis by lunch time Friday, but has a strong opponent in Jacob Lorino (Knox. Catholic).
D-I A-AA Girls: Katie DeLay and Makenna Thomas from Boyd Buchanan are in the doubles finals. The last time the Bucs had a state finalist was the current coach Tara Garner who was quick to mention that she made it twice in singles and claimed back-to-back state crowns in 2008-09.
