The Television Academy announced its honorees for the Eighth Annual Television Academy Honors, which includes Paycheck to Paycheck: The Life and Times of Katrina Gilbert, an HBO Documentary Film released in March 2014 featuring local woman and Chambliss Center for Children parent Katrina Gilbert. The film was produced in association with The Shriver Report: A Woman’s Nation Pushes Back From the Brink and executive produced by Maria Shriver.
The Television Academy Honors celebrate and recognize “programs that have used the power of television to shift cultural acceptance and influence the hearts and minds of the viewer.”
“These winning programs have made such a positive impact on society and everyone involved deserves to be commended on their significant contribution," said Television Academy Chairman and CEO Bruce Rosenblum on the announcement. "These programs have enlightened viewers, prompted discussion, raised social awareness and are sparking change.”
In late 2012, Chambliss Center for Children was approached by Maria Shriver and HBO Documentary Films regarding a project centered around the life of one of the families utilizing the agency’s Extended Child Care Program.
Review for Paycheck to Paycheck: The Life and Times of Katrina Gilbert:
The film offers a deeply personal, unvarnished and moving story of the life of Katrina, a single mom struggling to get ahead but constantly getting knocked back by a system that almost seems designed to see her fail. For Katrina, Chambliss Center for Children plays a large part in her ability to provide for her children. The film illuminates the challenges faced by her and more than 42 million other American women and the 28 million children who depend on them. It was directed and produced by Shari Cookson and Nick Doob and executive produced by Peabody and Emmy winner Maria Shriver and HBO’s Sheila Nevins. It debuted on March 17, 2014. Visit HBO.com for more on how to view the film.
The show runners and producers will be celebrated in a special presentation and reception, which Katrina Gilbert will attend. Emmy-winning actress Dana Delany will host the event on May 27 in Beverly Hills. The other five recipients are: black-ish “Crime and Punishment”, E:60 “Dream On: Stories of Boston’s Strongest“, The Normal Heart, Transparent and Virunga.
