Public Can Vote On Speedway’s Facebook To Help Children’s Hospital At Erlanger Win $20,000

T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital at Erlanger supporters and Speedway customers can help the hospital win $20,000 during “Battle of the Brave” in May.

To kick off its 24th year as a Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals partner, Speedway gasoline and convenient stores have partnered with CMN Hospitals in a contest called “Battle of the Brave.”  Throughout the month of May, Children’s Hospital supporters can help the region’s only children’s hospital win $20,000 by voting on Speedway Facebook page once every 24 hours in support of Cheyenne, this year’s local CMN Hospitals representative.

Cheyenne was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus before she was born.

At just five days old, she had brain surgery to place her first shunt. After two major seizures in March and April of 2014, Cheyenne was diagnosed with febrile seizures. In August,Cheyenne awoke gasping for air and stopped breathing. Her grandparents performed CPR until the EMTs arrived and took her to Children’s Hospital at Erlanger. There, the team drained fluid off Cheyenne’s brain and performed emergency surgery to replace her shunt. Cheyenne was recently diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, and therapy helps her continue to improve development and fine motor skills. She enjoys performing and loves to go to school. Because of her remarkable ability to overcome the challenges she has faced, Cheyenne was chosen as one of Children’s Hospital’s 2015 Miracle Children to represent all of the work the hospital does to care for sick and injured children in our region.

The winner of the “Battle of the Brave” contest will be determined by the number of cumulative votes at the end of the month.  Participants can vote beginning Friday by going to the Speedway Facebook Page, www.facebook.com/SpeedwayStores, click the Battle of the Brave link under cover photo, click View Entries, find “Children’s Hospital at Erlanger” and vote.  Facebook fans are also encouraged to share the entry they voted for so others can do the same.

Organizers said, "Don’t forget to stop in at any one of the local Speedway stores for a refreshing drink.  A portion of the proceeds from every Speedy Freeze or fountain drink sold in May will go to Children’s Hospital. Customers can also deposit change into the canister at the cashier counter all year long to support the hospital."
