Brown, Willie C. "Bill"

Willie C. “Bill” Brown, 98, of Hixson, died on Sunday, April 26, 2015, in a local health care facility.

Bill was born in Pikeville, but had lived in Chattanooga most of his life. Bill had worked for Chattanooga Traction Company for 14 years and later retired from Olgiati Construction Company with 28 years of service. Bill was a combat wounded veteran of World War II serving in the Army serving with the U.S. Sixth Cavalry before it was mechanized. Bill served his country in the Battle of the Bulge with General George Patton and General Dwight Eisenhower. He received five bronze stars, a silver star and a purple heart. 

Bill was a member of White Oak Church of Christ and was a son of the late Frank and Martha Loretta Jordan Brown. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Marguerite Baxter Brown, two brothers, Ollie Bates Brown and Tommy Stewart Mathis, four sisters, Lona Mae Boling, Lois Smith, Josephine Lind and Katherine Light.

Survivors include his son, Waymon V. “Buzz” Brown; daughter, Betty Anne (Duane) Weaver; three grandchildren, Julie (Mike) Wood; Jeffrey (Andrea) Weaver and Paul (Shellie) Weaver; five great grandchildren, Kaitlin Wood, Tyler Weaver, Allie Weaver, Mason Weaver and Maddox Weaver; brother, C.D. (Mary Ann) Mathis, sister, Bobbie M. (Ed) Fitch; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral ceremony will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 1, at White Oak Church of Christ, 2229 Lyndon Avenue, Chattanooga, with Ministers Jim Dearman and J.C. Watkins officiating.

Interment with military honors will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, April 30, from 2-8 p.m. and on Friday, May 1, from 1-2:30 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Home.
