When Alzheimer's disease struck Nanlee Fulmer, her son -- Tennessee football legend Phil Fulmer – decided to fight back.
His goal, he told Chattanooga Rotary members Thursday, is to help eradicate the disease that attacked his mother.
Toward that end, he urged Rotarians to sign up for the Pat Summit Invitational golf tournament which will be held May 17-18 at Lookout Mountain Golf Course to raise money to fight Alzheimer’s.
Sponsors Erlanger Hospital, the Summit Foundation and Lookout Mountain Golf Club hope to raise at least $100,000 to be used to help find a cure for the disease.
His friendship with Coach Summitt, who revealed in 2012 that she had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, goes back many years, Fulmer recalled.
As baby boomers continue to age, more and more men and women are being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, he warned; “If we don’t get our arms around this we’re going to have a national disaster.”
