The 2014-2015 Walker County Leadership Class will be the keynote speakers as the Walker County Chamber of Commerce celebrates their graduation at the May Membership Luncheon on Tuesday, May 12 at the Walker County Civic Center.
During the event, the participants from local businesses will give an overview of their experiences of what they have learned about Walker County and what they have gained in knowledge from getting to know their fellow participants. While some of their experiences are humorous, these events are all inclusive of Leadership and relationships in the business community.
Adult Leadership Walker County, a collaborative effort between Chamber Staff, Community Leaders and Chamber Members provides participants the opportunity to both learn and develop the skills necessary to be leaders in the community.
Participants are given an overview of city and county operations, allowed to tour local tourist attractions and businesses, and are equipped with vital information concerning government, education, social services, and industry.
Current graduates took monthly courses from September 2014 until May; beginning with a bonding retreat and ending with a day visiting Walker County’s tourist attractions. Other topic sessions included local government, state government, healthcare & social services, industry & economic development, and education.
During the year the class toured the Capitol in Atlanta, Mountain Cove Farms, the Martin-Davis House, Roper, the Jimmy Simpson Foundation, Walker County Sheriff’s Department, DFCS, Chickamauga City Schools, Walker County Schools, and Rock City among many others. The class also took action in the community during Project Leadership Day by having a work day to restore the aesthetic look of a local cemetery that had not been maintained for a long time.
