Mobile, Ala. – The Dalton State men’s tennis team ended their run at the Southern States Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon with a 5-1 loss to Auburn Montgomery at the Mobile Tennis Center.
The Warhawks started by taking two of the three doubles contests and ended when AUM captured three singles matches. The doubles loss to Dalton was the first match AUM has had this year.
In doubles:
1. Nikifarov – Hornby (DS) def. Lalami – Gunnarsson (AUM), 8-6
2. Vivas – Mendieta (AUM) def. Dartnell – Ruda (DS), 8-4
3. Grihol – Pinones (AUM) def. Bray – Souza (DS), 8-4
Singles:
1. Pinones (AUM) def. Hornby (DS), 6-0, 6-0
2. Vivas (AUM) def. Bray, 6-0, 7-5
3. Gunnarson (AUM) def. Souza (DS), 6-3, 6-0
“Our kids played with a lot of moxie today,” said Coach Zach Rogers. “We competed shot for shot with a top five team. We have gained the confidence we need going to the NAIA national tournament in three weeks. If we continue to take positive steps we can do some real damage at nationals.”
