Not Impressed With The Tax Increase - And Response

  • Friday, April 17, 2015

Mr. Smith did not impress me enough when he came to Lookout Valley and lobbied for support for his tax increase.

According to the draft supplied by Mr. Smith, the average pay for personnel in Lookout Valley Middle School and High School, including benefits, is $68,000.  That's not shabby; and then give a five percent pay increase: $2,727,929.36 divided by 40 staff is $68,198.24.

Mr. Smith said on radio and the paper that their had been no new revenue since 2005.

I believe that the programs are already available and in place for our children. This is yet another attempt by the culture of government leaders to get more money, which is the normal mantra that we as taxpayers hear every few years.

Art is a good and noble cause; may I suggest we start by removing the half naked statues downtown as that is simply pornography, not art.

Time to cut the fat pay checks at the top of the food chain in the school system and redistribute to the teachers in the trenches.  Time to cut unnecessary jobs and assistants at the top of the food chain and redistribute their pay to the teachers in the trenches once again.  Time for the school system to run their ship as if it were private business and not have the luxury of spending other people’s money when they obliviously don’t have the business skills to operate with the massive amount of money budgeted to them yearly.

It’s sad and embarrassing that these people are constantly needing money.  Unfortunately some of the powers to be couldn’t run a lemonade stand if they couldn’t get tax money from somebody to pay for their expenses.  Truly sad and embarrassing.
