East Ridge High School will showcase a school-wide project, Honoring Our Heritage, on Friday, April 24. ERHS has a diverse student population with 21 countries represented.
The project was designed by organizers to solidify the student body because some of the students come to ERHS from a foreign country unable to speak English. "We want to show the strength in diversity and the true meaning of being a Pioneer," said Rachel Bryant, ERHS graduation coach. "We decided to use digital arts as a universal means of communicating who we are and what we stand for. We applied, and were awarded, a grant from Chattanooga Community Foundation to purchase iMac computers and video equipment to pursue our goal."
Commissioner Tim Boyd also contributed funds for this computer lab as well as donations from PTSA, several teachers and Berry Construction Company.
There will be tours of the country displays at 10:30 a.m., followed by the showing of the student-created documentary at 11 a.m. The program will repeat at 1 p.m. with touring of the displays and viewing of the documentary at 1:30 p.m.
A “passport” will be issued to all who tour the displays in order to have it stamped by the countries visited.
