Hunting Seasons 2015-16 Preview To Be Made At TFWC's April Meeting In Paris

  • Friday, April 17, 2015

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will present a preview and recommendations for the 2015-16 hunting and trapping seasons at the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission’s April meeting.

The meeting will be held April 23-24 (Thursday-Friday) at the Holly Fork Shooting Complex outside of Paris in Henry County. Committee meetings will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday while the formal meeting is at 9 a.m. on April 24.

Wildlife and Forestry Division Chief Daryl Ratajczak will provide an overview on the hunting seasons’ setting process. The commission will be given a brief summary of the 2014-15 hunting season. Wildlife biologists Roger Applegate, Joy Sweaney, and Chuck Yoest will make presentations.

The TFWC usually set the state’s annual hunting seasons at its May meeting. The annual hunting and trapping regulations are effective Aug. 1 through July 31. Waterfowl hunting seasons are established at the October meeting.

Discussion on the future of TWRA’s Carroll Lake will continue at the April meeting. A June 2014 flood caused damage to the gates which forced their removal at TWRA’s Carroll Lake in West Tennessee. The lake has remained completely drained.

TWRA staff presented possible options at last month’s meeting.  TWRA staff have been in contact with various government officials since the March meeting and will present an update at the April meeting.
