A community event called “Fun Day
Sunday” is this weekend at Christ United Methodist Church in East Brainerd. It is an annual after-Easter event with one huge outdoor worship service on the church lawn, followed by free picnic lunches for all in attendance.
Following lunch, the church hosts games for both adults and children, including numerous inflatables, a petting zoo, pony rides and more.
Starting at 10:30 a.m., the outdoor worship will feature music performed by several groups. “On a normal Sunday you can choose from one of four services at our church, each one with a different style of music” said Associate Pastor David Hall. “At Fun Day Sunday, you get to hear all of the styles, which may help you choose which service you’d most like to attend.” The music performances will then be followed by a message from Senior Pastor Mark Flynn.
A tradition of the Fun Day Sunday service is that, after the service, the Christ Church congregation serves a free lunch to everyone in attendance before families enjoy all of the games and rides. Church staff says that if it rains, all activities will be moved inside.
Fun Day Sunday, according to Pastor Hall, is a celebration for the congregation and an invitation for the entire community. “ It is a great, relaxing way for people to come and learn more about our church and what it can mean to their family.”
Everyone is encouraged to bring your own folding or camp chairs and arrive early between 10 and 10:30 to be set up before worship starts. There will be nurseries available but no Sunday School or children’s church.
