The newly-appointed bankruptcy trustee involved in the handling of the eyesore Casey barge across from Ross's Landing said he is in talks concerning having it floated away to a scrapyard.

Jerry Farinash said he earlier spoke with Doug Stein of Stein Construction on a proposition to take away the restaurant portion of the barge and leave the hull. However, attorney Farinash said the Army Corps of Engineers would approve a partial removal. He said he would have further talks with Doug Stein.

Attorney Farinash said he has had several other offers that would involve removing the entire barge - a longtime river fixture that has caught the attention of officials from the River City Company and the Visitors Bureau to Senator Bob Corker.

He said any plan will need to get the Corps of Engineers approval. He said the Coast Guard would have to approve the plan to float it down the river - ensuring that it does not impede navigation.

Attorney Farinash said pumps are keeping the barge "pretty well pumped out."

He said he does not believe there is any possibility of it sinking, saying part of it is touching the river bottom.
