Snow In Today's Forecast After Balmy Wednesday; Hamilton County Schools, CCS, State Offices Closed Thursday

Temperatures were mild on Wednesday, reaching 74 degrees, but they began dropping as the day went on - leading to a winter weather advisory. The advisory went into effect at 4 a.m. on Thursday and is to continue until 4 p.m.

The forecast is for freezing rain,sleet and snow.

Hamilton County Schools will be closed Thursday. Officials said, "Due to the continued drop in temperatures and possible dangerous roadways, Hamilton County Schools will be closed today.  School Age Child care will also be closed."

Boyd-Buchanan, Catoosa County, Grundy County,  Monroe County, Polk County, Sweetwater and St. Andrews-Sewanee schools are on a two-hour delay.

Fort Payne and Dekalb County, Ala., schools are closed Thursday as well as Hickory Valley Christian School, Oakwood Christian Academy and Ooltewah Adventist School. Walker County Schools, Whitfield County Schools, Chattanooga Christian School, Notre Dame School and Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy are closed Thursday.

Boyd Buchanan School is closed.

Bradley County Schools will dismiss early on Thursday.  Elementary schools will dismiss at 11:30 a.m.  Secondary schools will dismiss at 12:30 p.m.

Bradley/Polk Adult Education evening classes are cancelled.

Covenant College will be opening at 12:30 p.m., with classes beginning at 1 p.m.

Dalton Public Schools will be closing early at noon on Thursday. Buses will run on an early release day schedule with Dalton Middle School buses leaving at noon and elementary buses along with Dalton High and Morris Innovative High buses leaving at 1 p.m.

All campuses of Georgia Northwestern Technical College will close at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

Hamilton County Young Republicans meeting scheduled for Thursday evening is cancelled.

Walker County government offices will close at noon on Thursday.

State offices are closed.

All TSSAA state basketball tournament games scheduled for today have been cancelled due to extremely hazardous road conditions.  Today’s schedule will resume tomorrow at 11 a.m. in order to allow extra time to for road conditions to improve in the morning.

Friday’s scheduled semifinal games will be played on Saturday beginning at 1:30 p.m. due to MTSU’s women’s basketball game that is scheduled game at 10 a.m.   Saturday’s scheduled championship games will be played on Sunday.
