Cleveland Police Officer Charged Again After Wife Catches Him At Their Home; TBI To Intervene

  • Wednesday, March 4, 2015

The Cleveland Police officer involved in a weekend incident in McMinn County that resulted in the demotion of brand-new Cleveland Police Chief Dennis Maddux has been arrested again.

Bradley County sheriff officials said Officer Jeffrey Griggs was taken into custody Tuesday evening for a violation of an order of protection issued after the McMinn County incident.

Meanwhile, District Attorney Steve Crump said he is asking the TBI to intervene.

He said,"On Monday afternoon I requested the TBI investigate certain aspects of the domestic violence allegations against Jeff Griggs. While I have complete confidence in the McMinn County Sheriff's Department, after consulting with their investigators, it became apparent that certain allegations of misconduct were alleged to have occurred in Bradley County and related to issues more appropriately investigated by the TBI.

"The investigation by TBI is limited in its scope and should be completed in short order."

Officer Griggs was booked into the Bradley County Jail.

The complaint says Cindy Griggs arrived home Tuesday at 7:51 p.m. and found Jeff Griggs and two other men at the residence at Chestuee Road. She was with her father, Steve Burgess.

Upon arriving in her driveway, they saw a Honda Pilot vehicle in the driveway. Cindy Griggs called the sheriff's office and responding officers found that the vehicle belonged to Shane and Amy Clark. The garage door opened and Jeff Griggs walked out along with Shane Clark and Steve Tyson.

Bradley officers said they had served the Order of Protection on Officer Griggs the previous night and he knew not to come around the house. They said he earlier had gotten his belongings along with two dogs from the home. They said he stated that he was staying at his mother's residence.

Officer Griggs was arrested, and the other two men were told to leave.

Maddux was busted back to his previous rank after Officer Griggs confronted him in a car with Mrs. Griggs.

In that incident, he was charged with assault on grounds that he started taking pictures of the chief with his wife, and the wife went after him to snatch the memory card from the camera. She said he bit her when she grabbed the card.
