A change has been made for the program for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s April Nature @ Noontime program. The new program will be presented on Native Bees: The Unknown Soldiers. It will be held on Thursday, at noon in the TWRA’s Region II Ray Bell Building located in the Ellington Agriculture Complex.
Polly Rooker, of TWRA Region II will be presenter. There are believed to be 4,000 bees species in the United States and more than 400,000 worldwide. Bee populations have been declining in recent years.
It is estimated that native bees pollinate about one-third of the food that is consumed. About 70 percent of flowering plants are pollinated by bees.
The program replaces the originally announced program by Lisa Powers, founding president of the Tennessee Herpetological Society and co-coordinator for the Nashville Zoo’s FrogWatch Program. It will be rescheduled for a later date.
Hosted by the Information and Education Division, Nature @ Noontime is held the first Thursday of each month. TWRA Nature @ Noontime presentations are about natural resources related topics and last about 30-45 minutes, allowing time for discussion during the allotted lunch hour.
