After the first 36 holes of the Argonaut Invitational, the Lee men’s golf team is holding down seventh place in the loaded 16-team field.
After firing a 76 on the first 18, Taylor Davis came back with a 73 and is tied for 12th place in the medalist hunt with a 149 total. Davis is followed by Peyton Sliger who began the day with a 1-under 71 but then slipped to a 79 to finish at 150.
Corey Sheppard got off to a slow start with a 78 but came back with a 74 and is at 152. Adam Wright had rounds of 76-80 – 156, while Shea Sylvester rounded out the Lee scoring with a 77-81 – 158.
As a team, Lee finished with a 300-306 – 606. Fellow Gulf South Conference member North Alabama is the tournament leader with a 296-294 – 590. The Lions are being paced by Forrest Knight, who is leading the medalist hunt after posting scores of 68-72 - 140.
Georgia Southwestern (293-302- 595) is tied for second with Arkansas Tech (289-306- 595). West Florida follows at 295-302- 597. Limestone College is fifth at 294-305- 599. Delta State, the leader after the first 18, is six strokes ahead of the Flames after carding scores of 287-313- 600.
In the battle for medalist, Spencer Olson is in second place after an impressive 72-71- 143. Georgia Southwestern’s Chris Low and Delta State’s Reed Lindsey are deadlocked for the third spot. Low started hot with a 69 then slid back to a 75 (144). Lindsey was consistent the entire day with two par rounds of 72. Matt Mullarkey of Limestone College rounds out the top five (73-72- 145).
The final 18 holes of the 54-hole event at the Tiger Point Golf Club will begin early on Tuesday morning.
