UTC's Mulyadi Named Tennis Player Of The Week

  • Tuesday, March 3, 2015

Chattanooga’s Claire Mulyadi has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played Feb. 23 through March 1. The senior went 4-0 in all matches last week as the Mocs picked up a pair of wins to move to 7-1 on the season.  UTC swept Jacksonville State 7-0, before topping UT Martin, 5-2, Sunday afternoon.

Mulyadi opened the week with a straight-sets win over Jacksonville State’s Zoe Bizinos (6-1, 6-3) and followed that with a three-set win over UT Martin’s Elina Geut.  After dropping the first set, 6-1, Mulyadi rebounded to claim the win with a 6-2 victory in the second set and a 6-4 triumph in the final frame.

Teamed with Katie Polk at No. 3 doubles, UTC’s pair posted a 6-2 win over Bizinos and Diana Mirceta.  Against UT Martin, Mulyadi and Polk were moved up to the No. 2 doubles team and came away with an 8-4 victory over Jessica Silva and Sarah Candeloro.

SoCon Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Feb. 10 – Lyn Yee Choo, ETSU
Feb. 17 – Stephanie N’tcha, Samford
Feb. 24 – Carita Moolman, Samford
March 3 – Claire Mulyadi, Chattanooga

The Mocs are back in action tomorrow when they host Middle Tennessee at the UTC Tennis Courts.  First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. (E.S.T) on Wednesday, March 4, and a link for live scoring is available on the women’s tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.

MTSU is 11-3 overall and ranked No. 65 in this week’s ITA team listings.  The Blue Raiders have recent wins over Samford (7-0), Western Kentucky (4-1) and Lipscomb (7-0). The Mocs also defeated the Bison (5-2) earlier in the season.  Both teams also have wins over Austin Peay and UT Martin and both squads have a 4-3 loss to Tennessee.  MTSU’s other two losses were against Auburn (1-4) and Mississippi State (0-5).

UTC is 10-14 in the all-time series with Middle Tennessee.  However, the Mocs have won each of the last two meetings.  Last year’s dual was a 5-2 Chattanooga win in Murfreesboro.
