Local Residents Invited To Nominate Their Physician For Annual Doctor's Day Salute

  • Tuesday, March 3, 2015
The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Medical Society, Medical Foundation of Chattanooga, and Project Access are recognizing local physicians by inviting community members to nominate outstanding physicians for Doctors' Day Recognition in March.

All nominated physicians will be honored at a special Doctors' Day reception on Tuesday, March 24, at 6 p.m. at COS Business Products & Interiors.

Local residents can nominate physicians by sharing what makes them special. Submissions can be mailed to the Medical Society at 1917 E.
Third St., Chattanooga, TN 37404, emailed to kevin@chattmd.org, or faxed to 423-622-7331. The deadline for submissions is noon next Monday.

"Nominations should include the physician’s name and the reasons you feel he or she should be recognized. Reasons may include a commitment to his profession, dedication to his patients, staff and family and/or involvement in the community. Be sure to include what makes this individual worthy of this recognition, and please feel free to share brief personal stories about the doctor you are nominating," officials said.

National Doctors’ Day provides a time for people to show appreciation to the doctors who care for them or their loved ones.  The first Doctors’ Day observance was March 30, 1933, in Winder, Ga., on the anniversary of the first use of general anesthetic in surgery.  The U.S. House of Representatives adopted a resolution commemorating Doctors’ Day on March 30, 1958. In 1990, Congress established March 30 each year as the National Doctors Day.

"This year’s observance also salutes the over 750 physicians who have volunteered to care for low-income uninsured residents of our community through Project Access," officials said.

Doctor’s Day is sponsored by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Community Trust and COS Business Products & Interiors.
