Bobcats Eighth After 36 Holes In Albany

  • Tuesday, March 3, 2015

The effects of playing and walking 36 holes conspired against the Georgia Northwestern men's golf team on Monday as they finished the first two rounds of the 54-hole Doublegate Invitational in Albany in eighth place overall.

The Bobcats, playing in their first tournament of the spring schedule, sat in sixth place following a score of 312 after the first 18 holes at the par-72 Stonebridge Golf and Country Club layout.

Freshmen Chase Cole and Jordan Estes each carded a opening-round 77, while fellow freshman Lanier Guest shot a 78.

Sophomore Grant Allen came in at 80, while sophomore Drew Tankersley and freshman Keaton Stanfield each shot 87. Only the four lowest scores counted toward the team score.

However, the Bobcats would stumble to a 332 in Round 2 with head coach Jared Willerson citing fatigue as a factor.

Estes was low man in the afternoon with a 79, followed by Guest with an 81 and Cole and Tankersley with a pair of 85's. Stanfield finished with an 87, while Allen came home with an 88.

Eastern Florida State scorched the Albany layout and currently sits in first place with a 4-under par total of 572 after 36 holes, including a sizzling 13-under 275 in the afternoon session.

Host Darton College (9-over par) is second by 13 strokes, while Dalton State and Central Alabama Community College are tied for third, 14-over par and 18 shots behind the leaders.

The remainder of the field has Abraham Baldwin in fifth place at 635, followed by Andrew College (639), Brewton-Parker (641), Georgia Northwestern (644) and Georgia Military College (674).

The third and final round will be held on Tuesday.
