Moc Golfers Finish In 9th Place At Furman Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C.---The Chattanooga Mocs men’s golf team finished ninth at the Furman Intercollegiate. The Mocs shot 891 (+27) for their 54 holes ending up three behind Virginia Tech and one clear of Davidson and Akron on Furman Golf Course.

“It was a disappointing weekend,” coach Mark Guhne stated. “We are not playing up to our abilities.

This week we’ll get back to work and get ready for Old Waverly (Apr. 6-7). We’ve dug ourselves a little hole, but I’m confident in what we are capable of doing to get out of it.

“But we have to do it from hole 1 through 54 in Mississippi.”

Sophomore Wes Gosselin led the way shooting 219 (+3) tying for 22nd. He followed yesterday’s level-par effort with another 72 today. He ended up one ahead of freshman Andrew Weathers who tied for 25th at 4 over.

“Wes and Andy played well,” Guhne said. “They had a couple of holes they’d like back, but from start-to-finish they battled and worked hard. The sky is the limit for them.”

Liam Johnston struggled in his final round. His 80 gave him a total of 226. Ewan Scott posted 227 after a 75, while Kory Webb shot 80 for a 238. Brooks Thomas‘ 80 marked a 233, while fellow individual Zac Stolz carded 78 for 237.

Georgia State ran away with the title shooting 858 with a level-par 288 effort today. Jacksonville shot 874 to finish second, one ahead of Troy at 875. Temple’s Brandon Matthews fired 4-under 68 to capture medalist honors by three (206) over the Panthers’ J.J. Grey (209).

The Mocs return to the tee at the Old Waverly Collegiate. The two-day, 54-hole event is April 6-7 at Old Waverly Country Club in West Point, Miss
