The Birmingham Southern College Concert Choir and Hilltop Singers, under the direction of Dr. Lester Seigel will present a concert at Brainerd United Methodist Church at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 12. The concert will feature works by Eric Whitacre, Joseph Haydn, Samuel Barber, Robert Morris, Ernest Bloch, Alice Parker, Robert Shaw, Thomas LaVoy, Daniel Seigel and Fred Gramann.
The Concert Choir, as well as the a-Capella Hilltop Singers ensemble, are auditioned groups whose students represent many of the academic majors offered by the college. Students are from the southeastern region, United States and even China. The group is stopping in Chattanooga as part of their annual spring tour which includes performances in Alabama, North and South Carolina. While in Chattanooga they will perform at The Baylor School and Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts.
Chattanooga is represented by Monica Cook, a junior majoring in History and Music.
Ms. Cook is a 2012 graduate of Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts. While at CCA, she was an active participant in the school’s musical theater and vocal programs. She was twice a participant in the Scenic City Chorus’s
Rising Star of Young Women in Harmony competition; placing in 2nd and 1st place. Ms. Cook is a member of Brainerd United Methodist; singing in the chancel choir. In Birmingham she is a member of the chancel choir at Birmingham First United Methodist.
