Lookouts' Parent Club, Minnesota Twins, Named Top Farm System In MLB

  • Friday, February 27, 2015
Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com has named the Minnesota Twins’ Farm System the best in all of Major League Baseball. The team’s farm system boasts some of the league’s best talent in baseball with six prospects ranked in the Top 100 and two in the top 15.

The list is topped by MLB.com’s number one overall prospect, OF Byron Buxton (No. 1), who was picked second by the Twins in the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft.
Making the list alongside Buxton are INF Miguel Sano (No. 11), RHP Alex Meyer (No. 29), RHP Jose Berrios (No. 32), INF Nick Gordon (No. 33) and RHP Kohl Stewart (No. 36).  The Twins’ farm system also includes highly touted prospect INF Jorge Polanco and OF Eddie Rosario, who hit .330 in the Arizona Fall League and led the Salt River Rafters to the 2014 AFL title.

MLB.com is not the only site to bestow accolades upon the Twins’ organization this year.  Baseball Prospectus named eight Twins players to their 2015 Top 101 Prospect list, ranking the Twins’ Farm System as the second best in all of Major League Baseball. Joining the aforementioned rated prospects on the list are LHP Lewis Thorpe (No. 91) and RHP Nick Burdi (No. 99).  Burdi spent time with the Fort Myers Miracle last season under 2015 Lookouts’ Manager Doug Mientkiewicz and helped lead the team to a Florida State League Title.

The 2015 season marks the Chattanooga Lookouts first year as the Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins.  In September the two teams signed a four-year player development contract, making the Twins the Lookouts’ first American League affiliate since 1987 when the team was with the Seattle Mariners.

Fans wanting to see the some of the best prospects in the minors can come out to AT&T Field on April 15 at 7:15 p.m. for the Lookouts’ home opener against the Birmingham Barons.  Fans can reserve their seats to the home opener and the rest of the team’s home games by purchasing a Firebirds Mini-Pack or season tickets by calling (423) 267-4TIX today!
