Three people were arrested in Cleveland on Friday after officers responded on a Walmart shoplifting call.
Cleveland Police Department officers were dispatched to the Walmart at 4495 Keith Street NW in reference to a shoplifting in progress.
Prior to arrival, the 911 Communications Center advised that the suspect vehicle, a red Ford Expedition, was leaving the parking lot. Chief Dennis Maddux spotted the vehicle exiting the north entrance of Walmart and was able to stop it at Tinsley Park on Keith Street.
Inside the vehicle were David Alan Evans, Lindsey Graham, Stephanie Wright and Michael Perry.
After a check for outstanding warrants on each individual returned, it was revealed that Ms. Graham was wanted on a warrant for failure to appear on charges of theft over $10,000. A check also revealed that Ms. Wright had a warrant for five counts of felony theft.
In the pocket of the driver's side door, a glass pipe and a container with a substance believed to be 1.2 grams of methamphetamine were also found.
Ms. Wright was placed into custody and charged with simple possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Evans was identified as the shoplifter by Walmart employees who went to the scene.
An unopened gas-powered hedge trimmer box was located in the rear of the vehicle, which Evans confessed was stolen merchandise from Walmart. Officers found that Evans had warrants for nine felony thefts and five misdemeanor thefts totaling $9,000.
The fourth passenger, Michael Perry, was released from the scene.
Chief Maddux commended his officers, Julius Porter, Jody Musselwhite, Cory Fox, Nathan Milam and investigator Bill Parks for their quick response and thorough follow-up of this case and other related cases.
