Oliver Harris, Sr.

Oliver Richard Harris, Sr., 64, of Hixson, Tennessee, died on February 26, 2015.

He was born Dec. 31, 1950, in Chicago, and spent his last nine years here in the Chattanooga area. Oliver was known for his love for God, his family, the Church and those without Christ.

He was an athlete who loved music and making everyone around him smile. He especially enjoyed spending time with the children, serving as a deacon and in the Biblical Counseling and homeless ministries. He had been a member of Stuart Heights Baptist Church since December 2006.

Oliver was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Vinckley Harris; sisters, Barbara Williams and Gloria Washington; and brothers, Vinckley Harris Jr. and David Harris.

He is survived by his wife, Sonia; children, Oliver Jr. and Sasha; brother, Tommy Harris and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, at Stuart Heights Baptist Church, 3208 Hixson Pike, Chattanooga.

Visitation will be from 12-1 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Ministry of Stuart Heights Baptist Church in his honor.
