Sylvia Kendrick
Sylvia Marie Price Kendrick, 98, of Chattanooga, died on Monday, November 30, 2015.
One of nine children, Mrs. Kendrick was born in Murfreesboro on Feb 28, 1917, to Sim and Martha Price. She graduated from Holloway High School in Murfreesboro and business school in Chattanooga.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and husband, Thomas H. Kendrick, Sr.
Sylvia accepted Jesus at an early age. She joined Cosmopolitan Community Church and later became a member of Allen Temple AME Church, where she served as Sunday School Teacher/Superintendent, on the Stewardess Board, Women’s Missionary Society (Lifetime Member) and sang in the choir. Sylvia was a member of the Widow’s Harvest Ministry, Eastdale Good Neighbors and the Birthday Club.
Mrs. Kendrick leaves a legacy of love to her daughters, Sylvia C. Dance (Noble), M. Eleanor Kendrick; son, Thomas H. Kendrick, Jr.; grandchildren, Azusa Dance, Ezekiel Kendrick, Natasha Kendrick, Chauncey Kendrick, Akilah Jackson, Thomas Kendrick, III and Tony Kendrick; seven great grandchildren; great niece, Teresa Draper Brazzell, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Special thanks to her caregivers for their devotion and love.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. at Allen Temple AME Church in Chattanooga. The committal service will be on Monday, Dec. 7, at noon CST at Prosperity Baptist Church Cemetery in Murfreesboro, Tn.
The body will lie in state after noon on Saturday, Dec. 5, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 423 622-9995.
